Ode to the Dying Cockroach

Oh Cockroach, down there on the floor,
Lying on your back,
Waving all your legs about,
To think that I did that!
I let out the toxic fumes,
That brought about your death,
I did it quite deliberately,
Although you're not dead yet...
You're in the final throes of life,
The same as all your kin.
I bet you wish you'd stayed outside,
Instead of coming in!

For it's my house you did invade,
You're an uninvited guest.
You're welcome to the great outdoors
But indoors? You're a PEST!
I tried to ask you nicely,
I told you several times
I put up tiny barbed wire fence,
adorned with little signs,
That said 'No Cockroaches' 'Go Away'
You ignored them, every one.
You and your horde came through the boards
and started having fun.

Both day and night you rambled,
on my walls and roof and floor.
But I have said 'enough's enough!'
I have declare-ed WAR.
So chemical warfare have I waged
Your comrades are all fallen.
You probably feel most ill used.
I hope you find it galling!
It's genocide that I have caused,
Many would be censorious,
I fear I feel no true regret
Instead I feel victorious.

My house is mine, I got it back!
My houseguest are all gone
So nyah nyah nyah Is what I say.
I declare this war 'Won'!

Every now and then I encounter a situation that inspires me to write bad poetry. Thankfully, it doesn't happen very often
I tried reciting it to the cockroach in question, but it didn't seem to appreciate it . Yet another reason why I don't like the blighters...

For those of you in Sydney, I am currently at Parramatta Markets (Church St Mall, Parramatta) on Saturdays 9am-2pm, and Marrickville Markets (Addison Road Community Centre, 142 Addison Road, Marrickville) on Sundays 9am-3pm. I'm in the green and white striped tent. Drop by and say hello!
